Space Management: 5Ways to make your small apartment feel bigger.

Rented apartments don't come so big these days. I was privileged to visit a friend weeks ago, she just got married with lots of stuffs to put together in her new home, but the rooms were so small it can barely hold everything and she was getting overwhelmed. We had fun making her home more accommodating.
Small apartments can feel bigger than it actually is, you just have to know how to manage your space, and to manage, i mean storing your stuffs. Optimizing your space to the best is what you need to be happy in your home. A house with luggage and items all over the place harbors more rodents. Below are some useful tips to keep your small apartment as spacious as possible.

1. Choose your furniture right.
From the size of your bed, the table, your entertainment stand and wardrobe, keep it small, make use of your wall, you can hang your TV unit to the wall, go for a wall shelves for your entertainment unit in place of tables or a stand. Center tables are cute, but when when managing your space, go for side tables. This will give you more additional space you require..

2. Make use of drawers
This is a very effective one, you can have as many as you want  attached to your bed, kitchen cabinets and toilets. Store all your kitchen utensils such as cooking pots, food storage containers, buckets etc neatly in your drawers.
Go for wall shelves with doors, this make the room look clean and classy. Don't clutter your bedroom with traveling bags and laundry baskets (dirty clothes bag).

3. Wall hooks and Hangers
This is also an effective one, make use of your wall space, hang in your towels in the bathroom, bathing sponge and shower caps.
in your kitchen, keep your counter tops free, hang your cooking spoons and frying pans, oven-mitt and napkins.

4. Use your cupboard/wardrobe tops
Another way to make your apartment bigger is by making use of your wardrobe tops, this gets rid of extra luggage on the floor, boxes and books, making room for more space in your bedroom.

5. De-clutter: Get rid of the knickknacks
Having few of your old collection is nice, but when they occupy too much space, they are better gotten rid of. the piece of broken mirror, shoes you no longer wear, that old couch in the hallway, your old photo frame that are so old they cant be hung on the wall, instead of keeping them at the corner of your bedroom or making a space for them in your little store, Get rid of them!

Do your laundry every week or every other day if you have kids, wash and replace your dishes after every meal. Use fewer, larger pieces of home accessories to reduce visual clutter.

7 Tips for choosing the right curtain for your home.

Curtains are important in every home decorating. Besides complementing the room decoration and general outlook, they also play a vital role in keeping your home warm and cozy. Choosing a wrong curtains can ruin the entire decoration of your apartment, this is why Interior design professionals always encourage choosing the curtain first before other aspect of the room.

Follow the following tips in choosing the best curtain for your home.

1. Colour and Fabrics
Curtains comes in different fabrics and textures. we have the thick curtains which keeps your room warm in winter, harmattarn or cold season. light curtains on the other hand keep your apartment airy and are of good advantage in tropical countries.
Colour should match the rest of the room decoration. you don't want your curtain colour rioting the carpet or your wall.
Curtain comes in different patterns;  plaid, stripped, floral and plain.

2. curtain Length
Get your length right! 6inches above window level is enough and the width should be wider than the window width. Curtains should not be excess on the floor. If your curtain is hung correctly, it should block the outside light.

3. Purpose of your Curtain
When hanging your curtain, make sure you consider the purpose, Is your curtain for daily use?
Do you want it to warm up your room? Do you need it just to enhance the room decoration?
make sure you consider your future purpose when choosing your curtain.

4.Curtains with Lining
Lining your curtain is very important, whether you are choosing a thick or light curtain. It helps insulate the window and also reduces the intensity of heat coming into the room or escaping as the case may be. curtains with lining is better, it gives your room a better life and also protects the curtain from fading.

5. Curtain Texture
Choosing the texture of your curtain is as important as choosing the fabric. Heavy curtains with silky texture gives your room a touch of luxury.cotton texture also give u comfort and timeless feel.

6. Curtain Tops
There are several patterns you can add to your curtain top.

7. Curtain Rods and Tie Backs
Some curtains don't show the rod, but if yours is showing, keep it plain and simple. the rod end to emphasis the theme of your room decoration.

Tie backs are not only gorgeous, they are also very useful. They are used to pull your curtain to the window frame for day light to come in. You don't have to go through the stress of pulling and jumping. Tie backs just make the use of your curtain stress free.
They come in different types;
  • Fabric
  • Rope
  • Beaded
  • Modern
whichever suits your taste.

Curtains may seem like a small aspect of home decorating, but trust me, when you choose it right, it changes everything!

Ankara Inspired Interior Design Ideas

Ankara Wax

African wax, commonly known in Western Africa as Ankara is one of the most trending in fashion world today. As we all know in the past decades, Ankara was mostly used by local women to sew Iro and Buba or skirt and blouse. But from recently, people got creative, they  first came up with Oleku,  a stylish Iro and Buba, seen  on fashion icons and black celebrities while doing their thing in owanbe (Occasions).

Soon after that, the idea started evolving; Ankara inspired makeup (that got me wowed), shoes, bags, clutches, even jewelries made from this same traditional material.

Ankara has got the fashion attention lately and home design world is not excluded. I was privileged to come across these breathtaking interior design ideas, inspired by African wax (Ankara)
